Somatic Therapy

"Times are urgent. We must slow down." –Bayo Akomolafe

Trauma isn’t just something we experience in our minds—it lives in our bodies too. When we go through difficult experiences, our body can hold onto that energy, even after the event itself has passed. You might feel tense, on edge, or experience chronic pain, and it’s because your body is holding onto past stress in ways you might not even realize. These stored sensations can show up as emotional triggers, dissociation, numbness, feeling disconnected from yourself, or struggling with being fully present in relationships. It can feel like there’s this weight or residue from the past that you can’t shake off.

Somatic therapy isn’t about “fixing” your body—it’s about honoring and working with the wisdom your body holds. I like to think of it as teaming up with your body’s protective responses. These responses, like tension, hyper-alertness, dissociation, or numbness, are part of your body’s natural way of keeping you safe. Rather than trying to shut these reactions down, we use them to help you heal. With my training in Somatic Experiencing (SE) I bring a range of tools to our work that help you process and release the residue from past experiences. We’ll explore how your body is holding onto these memories and, with gentle curiosity, work to metabolize that energy so you can feel more grounded, present, and in control. Somatic therapy can help you feel more connected to yourself, regulate your emotions, and create space for healing—so you can show up in life and relationships with ease and presence.
